Throughout 5,000 years of history, Koreans tenaciously held on to their national spirit through times of foreign invasions and hardship. What exactly is Korea's national spirit?
From June 26 to July 5, actor Song Il-gook and 64 young Koreans embarked on Cheongsanri Expedition. This year marks the Cheongsanri Expedition's 14th anniversary since it was first launched in 2001, and its aim is to retrace the steps of the independence activists and awaken the youth's national spirit. This year's expedition is even more meaningful because Korea just celebrated the 70th anniversary of liberation from Japan.
In search of Korea's national spiritWhere did this tenacious vitality come from and why is it special? Korea's national spirit comes from its 5,000 years of history. Every time Korea faced adversity, Korean ancestors fought for their country and people. They were the youth of their times, and they sacrificed their lives and dreams for their country. The youth of 2015 embark on a journey to meet the youth of a century ago.
It was Gen. Kim Jwa-jin of the Victorious Battle of Cheongsanri, countless independent activists, nameless soldiers, and brave Korean immigrants who protected and passed their national spirit to the people today. We take a walk through the paths that Gen. Kim Jwa-jin and independence activist Ahn Jung-geun took.
