Cho Yoon-sun, Minister of Gender Equality and Family
Families are the foundation of society and the source of national strength.
The Ministry of Gender Equality and Family supports victims of sexual and domestic violence, children of broken homes and many others in need. It runs special welfare programs to help people gain independence; educational programs for parents and spouses; sex education; sexual harassment and assault prevention education; continuing education programs; and for women, a program to help deal with the work-life balance. The ministry also carries out policies like the 'work-life balance hiring policy' to help Koreans form happy families.
In March, Minister Cho Yoon-sun became the first Gender Equality and Family minister of the new administration. She has often been 'first.' She was the first female lawyer in one of Korea's largest firms and the first female spokesperson of a conservative party.
In November, Minister Cho became the first minister from Korea to raise the issue of "comfort women" in a speech at the 3rd Committee of the UN General Assembly.
Now, 9 months since she took office, [Heart to Heart] meets Minister Cho to hear about her work and future plans.
