Mr. Kim studied industrial design in Seoul National University. After that, he acquired Master of Arts in the Industrial Design Department of University of Illinois and served as a professor for the same university. After establishing INNODESIGN US in Silicon Valley in 1986, he has gained incredible success internationally. To revive industrial design in Korea, he started performing as a professional industrial designer in Korea in 1999.
He set an unbelievable record by winning all of the gold, silver and bronze medals at America’s IDEA, which is considered the Academy Awards of the industrial design world. Also, he won numerous prestigious awards from iF and red-dot of Germany and Japan’s Good Design Award.
With the theme of “Design is Loving Others,” he has created a great deal of innovative mega hit products. Especially, Bill Gates highly praised his MP3 player saying that this product would lead the future. In his design, people always get priority. For him, “loving humans” is the most important aspect in terms of design. Recently, he has been presenting a new concept of talent, called “Purple People,” to work as a life designer for the young. He has been expanding his territory from industrial design to brand image and space design.
