Steve Kim is chairman of the scholarship foundation “Dream Hope Future” who personified the rags to riches story of the American Dream. Kim had a deprived childhood and had to study under difficult conditions. However, with his desperate dream for success, Kim went to the U.S. in 1976 and made his American Dream come true by successfully managing two IT industry companies, ‘Fibermux’ and ‘Xylan.’ Xylan was listed on NASDAQ within 3 year, had about $300 million in sales and established 60 local branches worldwide within 5 years. The company continued to grow for 60 consecutive quarters and became 100 times bigger within 15 years. Kim first landed in the U.S. with only $2,000, but he finally earned about $2 billion. After earning a colossal amount of money, Kim returned to Korea to share his success with the less fortunate students through the scholarship foundation he established, “Dream Hope Future Foundation”. And from 2004, Kim expanded his help to North Korea and overseas countries including Cambodia, Philippine and Nepal.
“The key to success is how you enthusiastically focus on your dreams and how hard you try to achieve your goals. It does not require significant amounts of money; it requires a heart-throbbing passion.” Kim said. “Do not forgo your dreams and hopes. You are still young and have infinite possibilities.
