주윤하는 2005년 초등학교 동창인 안승준과 밴드 ‘보드카레인’ 을 결성한 후 3장의 정규 앨범과 EP 2장 등 총 6장의 앨범을 발매하고 인디씬은 물론 대중적으로도 폭넓은 사랑을 받았다.
2011년 4월 팀이 잠정 휴지기에 들어가면서 주윤하는 본격적으로 솔로 음반을 준비하기 시작했다. 그는 같은 해 11월과 12월 싱글 ‘HATE’와 ‘집으로’를 차례대로 공개했다. 이어 2012년 2월 정규 1집 ‘On the Way Home’을 발매했다. 그는 1집에 수록된 전곡의 작사와 작곡을 포함해 연주, 프로듀싱까지 모두 직접 작업했다.

 

Ju Yoonha founded Vodka Rain with his elementary school friend Ahn Seung-joon in 2005, and released 3 full length albums and 2 EPs to date. The group gained popularity not only in the indie scene but among mainstream audience as well, but the band entered a hiatus in April 2011.

Ju Yoonha began working on his solo album, and released singles “Hate” and “집으로 (To Home)” in November and December of 2011. His first solo full-length , for which he wrote all music, lyrics, and took part in instrumentation and producing, was released in February, 2012.

홍대 인디씬에서 중요한 위치를 차지하고 있는 모던락 밴드 보드카레인의 리더 주윤하는 조금 의외의 노래를 들고 나왔다. 밴드음악에서는 너무나도 친숙한 드럼소리도 일렉 기타소리도 들리지 않는다. 세상 처음으로 들려줄 그의 노래에는 오직 피아노와 목소리 만이 담겨 있다. (첫 싱글 Hate)
주윤하의 첫 솔로 앨범에서는 전곡을 그가 직접 작사, 작곡, 편곡 했을 뿐만 아니라 그의 포지션인 베이스기타 외에 피아노와 기타 연주 그리고 믹싱도 직접 참여하여 그 만의 색깔을 더 또렷이 표현하였다. 여기에 정원영, 손성제, 이상순, 토마스 쿡, 디어클라우드, 나희경 등 한 곳에 모이기 힘든 아티스트들이 참여하여 완성도를 더욱더 높여 주었다.

 

Modern rock band Vodka Rain has an important position in the Hongdae indie scene. But its leader Ju Yoonha is bringing with him some unusual sounds. There’re no drums or electric guitars people are used to hearing from band music. His first solo works carry only his voice and the sound of a piano (Hate).

For his first solo album, Ju Yoonha wrote all the songs, all the lyrics and arrangements. He not only played his main instrument – bass, but also played the piano, guitar, and took part in the mixing process. In addition, artists like pianist Jeong Won-young, saxophonist Sohn Seong-jae, Thomas Cook, Dear Cloud and Na Hee-kyoung, among others, took part in the album to make it complete.
