인디 싱어송라이터 이영훈은 무엇보다 천천히 넉넉히 연주한다. 그러한 템포와 호흡이 그와 왠지 닮았다. 세상의 속도에 개의치 않고 유지하고 있는 자기 템포랄까. 어쩌면 아주 평이하게 연주될 수도 있는 소박한 곡들도 있다. 하지만 이영훈의 손과 목소리를 거치면, 곡들이 그 여백들 사이에 충분한 여유를 지닌 채 넓은 풍경을 그려내기 시작한다.

<내가 부른 그림>은 이영훈의 데뷔 음반이다. 하지만 이영훈이 공연을 통해 음악을 들려준 건 꽤 오래되었고, 이 1집 음반은 긴 시간, 여러 번의 시도를 거쳐 나왔다고 한다. (심지어 이영훈의 음반이 눈 앞에 있어야 발매를 믿겠다는 지인들도 있었다) 그만큼 그는 자신의 음악을 천천히 다듬어 온 듯 하다.

 

머뭇거리지만 결국 내지르고 마는, 약하지만 고집스러운 데가 있는 남자의 목소리. 나는 소신있는 목소리가 좋다. 외롭고 쓸쓸한 마음일 때에는 더욱 그렇다.

Indie singer/songwriter Lee Young Hoon plays slowly, and fully. Such tempo and breath is a lot like him. He has his own tempo of doing things, regardless of the rest of the world. There are simple songs that could sound rather mundane, but through his hands and his voice, they paint a broader picture with a lot more to give in between the notes.

<내가 부른 그림> (The Picture I Sang) is Lee Young Hoon’s debut album. But it’s been a while since he’s been performing, and his first album is said to have been made after much time, and multiple attempts. (Some friends even said that they’ll only believe that it’s been released after they see it.) It goes to show that he’s been taking his time to refine and polish his sounds.

Hesitant, but out there in the end, fragile but stubborn. I like his strong-willed voice – especially when I’m feeling lonely and melancholy.
