대학교 실용음악과 진학을 희망하면서 입시를 준비하던 다섯명은 같은 꿈을 가진 사람들끼리의 동질감을 느끼며 그 누구 할 것 없이 '밴드' 라는걸 제대로 해보자는 당찬 포부를 가지게 된다. 영국음악, 특히 90년대 초 영국의 매드체스터 씬에 많은 영향을 받은 그들은 그것을 토대로 곡을 쓰기 시작했다. 그후 그들의 10대의 마지막 달에 밴드가 결성되어 본격적으로 홍대 라이브클럽을 중심으로 꾸준히 공연을 하면서 차츰차츰 경험을 쌓아갔다. 활동한지 반년이 조금 넘어선 2010년 여름 대한민국 최대 규모 락 페스티벌인 '지산 밸리 락페스티벌'에서 그해 최고의 루키로 선정되어 그들의 이름을 본격적으로 알리기 시작한다.

2011년 겨울, 그들의 첫 정규앨범이 발매된다. 이제는 21, 22살이 되었지만 뜨거운 꿈은 여전히 담은 채 말이다. 2011년 1월에 EP앨범 [Bye Bye Badman]을 발매했을 때완 사뭇 다른 느낌이다. 채 1년이 안 되는 짧은 기간 동안 자신들의 음악적 성숙함을 한층 업그레이드 시켰다.
1집 앨범 [Light Beside You] 에는 EP앨범에는 거의 없었던 한글가사의 비중을 높였다. 재치 있는 기타리프와 오르간 사운드로 시작하는 첫 번째 트랙 'Purify My Love', 타이틀곡인 '노랑불빛'과 발매 전부터 화끈한 라이브로 많은 주목을 받았던 'LOW' 등을 수록하고 있다. 각기 다른 개성을 가진 10곡들로 채워져 있지만 'Light'이라는 공통된 주제를 가지고 있다. 'Light'은 단순히 'Bye Bye Badman'의 꿈이나 사랑이 될 수도 있지만, 이 음악을 통하여 당신의 'Light'으로 함께하고픈 의미 또한 담고 있다.

♣ Artist:

The five members of Bye Bye Badman met as they were preparing college entrance. Their shared dream and passion led to the creation of their band, and they began writing songs, heavily influenced by the British Madchester sounds of the 90s. The band began making a name for themselves about half a year after they started performing at clubs around Hongdae area, after being selected as the Rookie of the Year at 2010 Jisan Valley Rock Festival – one of Korea’s largest rock festivals.

Members: Jeong Hansol (drum), Kwak Minhyeok (guitar), Ko Hyeongseok (keyboard), Lee Ruri (bass), Jeong Bong-gil (vocal/guitar)

♣ Album: Light Beside You

The band’s first full length album was released in the winter of 2011. The members are now in their 20s, but their passion remains the same. The album sets itself apart from the band’s first eponymous EP, which was released in January 2011. Within less than a year, they were able to upgrade their musical prowess.

The album [Light Beside You] contains more of Korean lyrics compared to the EP. Opening with the witty guitar riff and organ sounds of ‘Purify My Love,’ the album is home to the title track 노랑불빛 (Yellow Light), and also LOW, which drew attention during live performances. Although each very unique, all 10 tracks share a common theme of Light. This Light could simply be interpreted as the dream and love of Bye Bye Badman, but it also refers to their hope to be your Light through their music.
