Groundbreaking Ceremony for 4 River Restoration Project Held

The groundbreaking ceremony for the restoration project of the four major rivers in Korea took place on Sunday at construction sites near Yeongsan River and Geum River.
The ceremony, hosted by the Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs, was held under the title "Proclamation of Hope" to mark the official start of the project and to wish its success.
President Lee Myung-bak and officials from relevant ministries along with some 2-thousand local residents attended the ceremony in Naju, South Jeolla Province, near the Yeongsan River.

[Interview : President Lee Myung-bak] "The 'Four River Restoration Project' is not something we can do, or cannot do. It is a project we must do at this period of time. The future project for the well-being of the Korean people must not be influenced by political or other interests."
