Chinese Couples Head to Korea to get Married

A studio specializing in wedding photography in southern Seoul is busy taking portraits of Chinese couples who are soon about to enter into matrimony.

Of late, a growing number of brides and grooms-to-be from China have been coming to Korea to prepare for their weddings, taking advantage of a comparatively weak Korean won. To this end, the local wedding industry in cooperation with the tourism sector as a whole is rushing to introduce a variety of special wedding packages targeting Chinese couples.
Such packages include offering them professional quality photography emulating famous photos of Korean celebrities many from exported television dramas that ignited "Hallyu" or the Korean wave across Asia.

[Reporter : Chinese Bride-to-be] "As soon as I saw Korean celebrity wedding photography I immediately felt that it was that way we should take our pictures as Korea offers better quality than China."

In addition to the weak won the quality of Korean artistry with regards to marriage services is further adding impetus to the growth of the industry, and is driving many Chinese couples to fly to Korea, as opposed to locales such as Taiwan, Hong Kong and Europe.

[Reporter : Chinese Groom-to-be] "My wife brought me here to Korea. If she chose France, we would have gone to France."

Tourism officials say those who come to Korea for wedding packages spend an average of 10 million won or about 7,700 U.S. dollars each. Through active marketing strategies such as holding fashion shows displaying Korean bridesmaid gowns and accessories in China Korea hopes to attract an even larger number of Chinese couples, newly-weds and tourists to the country.
