Monkeypox cases jumped 20% in the last week to 35,000 across 92 countries: WHO Updated: 2022-08-18 12:33:45 KST

Global cases of monkeypox cases have jumped by 20-percent, or nearly 7,500 new cases over the last week, bringing the total to over 35-thousand infections across 92 countries.
The World Health Organization says most of the cases are in Europe and the Americas, with twelve deaths reported so far.
There were three-thousand cases in June, prompting the WHO to declare a Public Health Emergency of International Concern a month later.
Speaking in Geneva on Wednesday, the WHO Director-General, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, said the global supply of the monkeypox vaccine remains limited and data on its effectiveness against the current outbreak remains sparse.
