U.S. lawmakers visit Taiwan less than 2 weeks after Pelosi trip Updated: 2022-08-15 09:28:01 KST

A U.S. congressional delegation arrived in Taiwan on Sunday, less than two weeks after a visit by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
The five-members, led by Democratic Senator Ed Markey of Massachusetts, will discuss issues including regional security, trade and investment with President Tsai Ing-wen and other senior Taiwanese figures.
The American Institute in Taiwan, which is the de-facto U.S. Embassy in Taipei, said the delegation's trip was part of a wider visit to the Indo-Pacific region.
Since Pelosi's visit to the island earlier this month, Beijing continued its military drills in the seas near Taiwan.
On Sunday, Taipei detected 22 Chinese aircraft and six naval ships in and around the Taiwan Strait.
