Pres. Yoon Vows to Ensure People Who Sacrificed for Nation are Honored Properly Updated: 2022-08-14 10:58:45 KST

The government will do all that it can to properly honor those who perished fighting for freedom and the independence of this country.
President Yoon Suk-yeol addressed the nation on the eve of the 77th anniversary of Korea's liberation from Japan's 1910 to 1945 colonial rule at a joint memorial service to lay to rest the remains of 17 independence fighters at the national cemetery.

"The freedom we enjoy today stands on the sacrifices of those who threw their lives like candles for freedom and independence of our homeland despite the grim reality and despair of the Japanese colonial era."

The remains of these fighters had been buried at a cemetery in northern Seoul for the last six decades.
Yoon added that he will ensure there is not an inch of negligence in honoring those who sacrificed and committed themselves to the nation and people.
