Last month, South Korean shipbuilders accounted for more than half of all ships ordered worldwide by volume.
According to Clarkson Research Service, South Korea's shipbuilders in July clinched orders totalling more than 1.1 million compensated gross tons.
This is equal to 55 percent of the global total.
The country has maintained its top spot for three straight months.
Meanwhile, China accounted for 30 percent of the world's total, coming in second.
South Korea was able to take the lead due to increased orders for liquefied natural gas carriers.
From January to July, South Korean shipbuilders won orders for more than one-hundred LNG carriers, mainly thanks to increased demand from Qatar.
