S. Korea plans to provide 10 times faster Wi-Fi on subways by the end of the year Updated: 2022-07-04 11:32:53 KST

WiFi network service on Seoul's subways are about to get much faster. Ministry of Science and ICT announced Monday, that it's currently working with South Korean mobile carriers to make 5-G network services on the 28-gigahertz band available on Seoul's subway lines 2, 5, 6, 7 and 8. The work should be complete by the end of this year, giving some subway cars Wi-Fi that is ten times faster than now. Based on the ministry's report from last year, the average Wi-Fi download speed within subway cars was only one fifth of the national average. Once the new Wi-Fi service launches, passengers will just need to scan the QR codes posted on subway cars to connect to the 5G network.
