WiFi network service on Seoul's subways are about to get much faster.
Ministry of Science and ICT announced Monday, that it's currently working with South Korean mobile carriers to make 5-G network services on the 28-gigahertz band available on Seoul's subway lines 2, 5, 6, 7 and 8.
The work should be complete by the end of this year, giving some subway cars Wi-Fi that is ten times faster than now.
Based on the ministry's report from last year, the average Wi-Fi download speed within subway cars was only one fifth of the national average.
Once the new Wi-Fi service launches, passengers will just need to scan the QR codes posted on subway cars to connect to the 5G network.
