Instead of Iraq and Saudi Arabia, Russia may become the biggest supplier of oil to India, Asia's biggest buyer.
According to tanker tracking figures compiled by Bloomberg, Russia is expected to deliver around one million barrels of oil a day this month to India, the world's third-largest oil importer.
This is about the same amount as India gets from Iraq and much more than it gets from Saudi Arabia.
Due to Western sanctions, Russia has been pressured to find alternative markets and has muscled into the Indian and Chinese markets.
Bloomberg says India is defending its decision to buy from Russia,.. citing its need for oil and its need to reduce the cost.
