S. Korea's PM presents Busan's bid to host World Expo 2030 at BIE Updated: 2022-06-22 13:45:06 KST

South Korea has ambitiously pitched its bid to host the World Expo 2030 in the port city of Busan.
The country's Prime Minister Han Duck-soo delivered the presentation on Tuesday,.. at the Bureau International des Expositions in France.
The agency with 170 member states, is in charge of overseeing and regulating World Expos.

South Korea's proposed theme for World Expo 2030 Busan is "Transforming Our World, Navigating Toward a Better Future".
The Prime Minister stressed the importance of building a future in which "humans, technology and nature can prosper in harmony".
And he said that South Korea would like to play a bridging role between developing and developed nations.

In promoting the country as a potential host, Han highlighted the nation's ability to bounce back from economic hardships.

"Korea has overcome war, poverty, economic crisis, and other difficult challenges to emerge as the world’s 10th largest economy We want to serve the international community by sharing these valuable lessons in the hope that we can help illuminate the way forward for all."

Han also underlined that South Korea has become an active player in the global community,.. through "cutting-edge industries and trendy cultural output".

South Korea's President Yoon Suk-yeol wrapped up the presentation with a video message.

"The 2030 Busan World Expo will be a festival where everyone around the world can celebrate, enjoy and experience the future. See you all in Busan, Korea."

South Korea is competing against Italy and Saudi Arabia,.. and the winning country will be announced in November 2023.
The South Korean government says the expo would bring significant economic benefits to the country,.. worth around 47-billion U.S. dollars.
