S. Korean rear admiral to lead training at world's largest int'l naval exercise Updated: 2022-05-24 17:20:02 KST

For the first time this year, a South Korean Navy rear admiral is going to be in charge of part of the world's largest international naval drills next month in Hawaii the U.S.-led Rim of the Pacific Exercise.
South Korea's taken part in the drills 16 times, but to date has so far been represented by a captain.
The details have not been finalized, but the Navy says it plans to send two large vessels the 14-and-a-half-thousand ton amphibious assault ship Marado and an 18-hundred-ton submarine.
It'll be the first time for the country to deploy vessels of that size.
