IAEA chief inspects earthquake-hit Fukushima Daiichi plant Updated: 2022-05-20 06:00:44 KST

The head of the International Atomic Energy Agency vowed on Thursday for a transparent review process to enhance public confidence ahead of the release of treated water into the sea from the crippled Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant.
Director General Rafael Grossi, who is in Japan for a three-day trip, inspected reactor decommissioning procedures and the storage of the treated water.
He stressed that everything is in full compliance with IAEA safety standards.
The planned discharge of treated water is expected to begin around next spring.
