World News: Syrian prison clash kills more than 120 Updated: 2022-01-24 10:02:59 KST

Let's take a look at what's going on in 'The World Now'.

A deadly clash between US-backed forces and the Islamic State has led to at least 120 deaths.
This all started when the Islamic State attacked a Kurdish-run prison last Thursday,.. hoping to break out prisoners.
The clash has been on-going since then, with UK-based Syrian Observatory of Human Rights reporting that 77 IS members, 39 Kurdish fighters, including internal security forces, prison guards and counter-terrorism forces were killed.
Unfortunately, at least seven civilians were also killed in the fighting.
Officials say the military did recapture 104 prisoners who escaped, but the total number of those who broke out had not been determined.
The prison is known to hold thousands of suspected ISIL members.
Protesters in Burkina Faso siding with soldiers who staged mutinies at several barracks in the country, set fire to the headquarters of the ruling party in the capital.
The unrest comes as soldiers staged an attempted coup, demanding the sacking of the country's military top brass, and the allocation of more resources for the seven-year clash against Islamist insurgents.
The soldiers demand that the top generals be replaced, while also calling for better care for injured troops and better support for the families of soldiers killed in battle.
The government has denied reports of a military takeover, but are on high alert, as governments in West and Central Africa have seen successful coups over the past 18 months in Mali and Guinea.
A fire at a nightclub in Cameroon's capital, Yaounde, in the early hours of Sunday, killed at least 16 people, while injuring at least 8 others.
According to officials,.. the incident was caused by the explosion of fireworks used inside the nightclub, adding that it caused fire to break out in the ceiling, and led to further explosions and panic in the venue.
The tragedy also comes as Cameroon is currently hosting the African Cup of nations.
