U.S. President Joe Biden will hold virtual talks in the coming hours with Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida.
They will discuss issues, including COVID-19, climate change, and other global challenges.
They are also expected to address ways to strengthen their alliance to promote a free and open Indo-Pacific region.
Washington and Tokyo are looking to deepen ties in light of China's growing global presence as well as North Korea's missile threats.
It will be Biden's first meeting with Kishida since he was sworn in as Japan's Prime Minister late last year.
