wins Nobel Prize in Chemistry Updated: 2021-10-06 17:09:46 KST

The Nobel Prize in Chemistry has been jointly awarded to two chemists each from Germany and the U.S.
Benjamin List and David MacMillan won the prize for their accomplishments in the "development of asymmetric organocatalysts."
List discovered that an amino acid called "proline" could catalyze a chemical reaction.
MacMillan succeeded at developing a more durable metal catalyst using organic molecules.
Because of the pandemic, the laureates were not present at the ceremony in Stockholm.
Instead, winners will receive the medal in their home countries in December.
The prestigious award has been given to one-hundred-eighty-seven established chemists worldwide since 1901.
This is the third Nobel award of the season following Monday and Tuesday's announcements of medicine and physics prizes.
