S. Korea, U.S. extend defense cost negotiations one more day: Yonhap Updated: 2021-03-07 13:43:58 KST

South Korea and the United States have reportedly decided to extend their talks one more day on setting the amount Seoul will to contribute to the cost of stationing American troops on the Peninsula.
That's according to Yonhap News, citing an unspecified source.
Seoul's chief negotiator, Jeong Eun-bo, is in Washington for those talks, and according to the source, he'll attend another round of talks on Sunday before flying home the next day.
The latest round of meetings is the ninth round held to secure a deal since the last one expired in 2019, and it's the first under the Biden administration.
A State Department official told Yonhap on Saturday that a deal is very close.
Trump officials wanted Seoul to boost its contribution more than five fold to five billion dollars a year, but later reduced that to a 50-percent increase.
Seoul is said to be sticking to an increase of 13 percent.
