Starting Tuesday, the South Korean health authorities are going to mete out harsher punishments to those who hinder efforts to track and trace virus cases and those who violate quarantine measures.
Under a change to the law, those who intentionally disrupt epidemiological investigations will be sentenced to up to three years in prison or fined up to 30 million won, which is around 27-thousand U.S. dollars.
The health ministry can also claim compensation from those who spread the virus on purpose.
Those who jump the queue and get vaccinated before their turn can be fined up to two million won, or about 18-hundred dollars.
