The nominee for U.S. Deputy Defense Secretary says the U.S. missile system provides deterrence against the limited nuclear threats posed by places like North Korea and Iran.
In a written response to her pre-confirmation-hearing questions from the U.S. Senate Armed Services Committee, Kathleen Hicks stated that, if confirmed, she would work on further enhancing Washington's missile defense system.
She also noted that the missile threat posed by China and Russia is increasing, adding that cooperation with U.S. allies is crucial.
If confirmed, Hicks will be the first woman to serve in the post.
