The U.S. Senate has confirmed Antony Blinken as Secretary of State.
On Tuesday, the Senate voted 78 to 22 to confirm the former deputy state secretary as the country's top diplomat.
Blinken said in a confirmation hearing last week that he supports restoring U.S. alliances and multilateralism in many issues including North Korea's denuclearization.
Seoul's foreign ministry says Blinken has leadership skills and a deep understanding of Korean peninsula issues/
It added that it expects his appointment to further strengthen the alliance.
