Special probe into Sewol-ho ferry disaster finds no evidence of gov't spying on bereaved families Updated: 2021-01-19 14:31:52 KST

Nearly seven years after the Sewol-ho ferry disaster, which led to more than 300 deaths, mostly high school students, a special investigation team has concluded its probe into the sinking.
The Sewol-ho ferry disaster special investigation unit, which was launched in 2019, reported in a briefing on Tuesday that it could not find any evidence that the Park Geun-hye administration had illegally monitored the victims' families.
It also concluded that there was no evidence to suggest that the ship's automatic identification system, which tracks its movements, had been meddled with.
The unit decided to pass to an independent counsel the issue of alleged tampering with the ship's surveillance cameras.
