Iran requests frozen assets in S. Korea be used to pay regime's UN membership fees Updated: 2021-01-19 05:13:04 KST

Iran has proposed some of its seven billion U.S. dollars frozen in South Korean banks to be used to pay its overdue UN membership fees.
According to the state-run Islamic Republic News Agency, the Iranian Foreign Ministry has made the suggestion to South Korea.
According to a South Korean official, who didn't want to be named, the two sides are consulting with related government agencies, including the UN.
Iran reportedly has the largest amount of overdue membership fees, totaling over 15 million dollars.
