South Korean foreign minister Kang Kyung-wha held a phone conversation with her Japanese counterpart Toshimitsu Motegi, about the latest ruling on victims of Japanese wartime sexual enslavement.
During their phone call on Saturday, Kang requested the Japanese government refrain from an "excessive reaction" to the ruling, saying that the South Korean government has already made its stance clear on the issue.
Seoul's foreign ministry said the two ministers have agreed to continue diplomatic dialogue channels.
Japan strongly protested on Friday over the South Korean court ruling, that ordered the Japanese government to compensate 12 Korean victims of the so-called "comfort women" system.
