Our staritng point tonight: South Korea's drug safety ministry says it's started its evaluation of the COVID-19 vaccine made by AstraZeneca.
The AstraZeneca vaccine is the main one being used in the United Kingdom and considered to be one of the more inexpensive and easy to store options available out there.
Generally, in South Korea, it takes more than 180 days to approve a new drug, but the ministry says it aims to finish its evaluation in the next 40 days.
The approval would mark the first for the country which has been grappling with a prolonged surge in infections during the latest wave that has led to a sharp increase in deaths.
The AstraZeneca vaccine requires two doses for a full inoculation and is known to have and efficacy of 70 to 90 percent.
