Though the figure has dropped below the 1,000 mark, officials remain on high alert for a potential uptick in infections over the Christmas and New Year holidays.
Of the new cases, 955 were locally transmitted, most of which in the greater Seoul area.

The total number of cases is nearing the 53-thousand mark.
