With social distancing at level two, South Korean military service members in the greater Seoul area are now in most cases prohibited from taking leave.
The defense ministry said the rule will be in place for two weeks.
The military, it says, will allow one-day trips to areas where there have been no confirmed COVID-19 cases for a week but only with the permission of a commanding officer.
On-base religious facilities will only be allowed to operate at one-fifth capacity.
