No. of people employed in S. Korea fell for six consecutive months Updated: 2020-09-09 08:25:37 KST

Another bleak report on the country's job front,… showing the COVID-19 pandemic is wreaking havoc on the local labor market.
According to data released by Statistics Korea on Wednesday, the total number of people in employment in August was roughly 27 million,… down 274-thousand from the same period last year.
This marks the sixth consecutive month of decline on-year and is the first time since 2009, in the aftermath of the global financial crisis, that the figure has fallen on-year for six months in a row.
Last month's figures do not reflect the effect of strengthened social distancing measures in the capital and surrounding area due to a recent surge in infections.
