Almost all remaining oil removed from stricken ship off Mauritius coast Updated: 2020-08-13 10:00:39 KST

Almost all the remaining oil from the Japanese cargo ship that has caused a massive oil spill after it ran aground off the coast of Mauritius has been pumped out.
The island nation's Prime Minister said more than three thousand tons of oil from the ship's fuel tanks had been pumped out, and only a small amount remained on board somewhere else.
He added the operation had been a "race against time", amid fears the ship could break in two.
The ship ran aground on a coral reef on July 25th and caused massive environmental damage to the island nation home to world-famous coral reefs.
