Typhoon Jangmi to bring downpours to S. Korea's south coast Updated: 2020-08-10 10:57:52 KST

Let's start with the typhoon approaching the southern part of the Korean peninsula.
It's forecast to bring even more misery to residents in some of the worst-affected areas of this unusually prolonged rainy season.
Let's go straight to our weather caster Lee Jee-hyun for the latest.
Jee-hyun, what can people in the south of the country expect in the coming hours?

Good afternoon. Rain and wind speeds are picking up in the south as the 5th typhoon of the season, Jangmi is edging ever closer to the south coast.
Southern parts of the country will be directly affected by Jangmi.
The typhoon will pass through Busan and Ulsan later this afternoon and reach close to Gyeongju by 6 PM this evening.

A typhoon advisory has been issued for Jeju and Busan and along the south coast. It will be expanded to more eastern regions as well as the East Sea.

Those regions could see up to 150 millimeters of rain possibly more than 250 millimeters by tomorrow. Stay safe and keep an eye on the latest weather developments if you are in those parts of the country.

That's all for now, but I will be back with more toward the end of the newscast.
