The main opposition Liberty Korea Party elected its new floor leader to replace former-floor leader Na Kyung-won this morning.
Five-term lawmaker Shim Jae-cheol takes up the position, beating three rivals in a sweeping victory.
Speaking to reporters after his victory was confirmed, Shim said that the results reflect the party's strong determination to resolve the difficulties it is facing, and vowed to devote himself to bring the party to success in the 2020 general elections.
His primary goal will be on making a breakthrough with the ruling and minor opposition blocs to pass the budget plan for 2020 as well as make negotiations on key controversial reform bills put on fast-track last April.
The party also elected three-term lawmaker Kim Jae-won as their top policy maker, he will work closely with Shim until May 29th the last day of the 20th National Assembly.
