China and the U.S. said progress has been made regarding the trade dispute between the two countries.
China's commerce ministry said in a statement released Saturday that a consensus was reached in principle during phone talks between their main trade negotiators.
They also discussed a timetable to hold another round of talks, despite Chile's withdrawal as the host of the APEC summit later this month, where the two countries' leaders were expected to sign an agreement.
U.S. President Donald Trump said he hopes to sign an agreement with Chinese President Xi Jinping in the U.S. State of Iowa, a key battleground in the 2020 presidential election.
