South Korean director Bong Joon-ho received an eight-minute standing ovation at the Cannes Film Festival on Tuesday night for his latest film "Parasite."

"I don't like to follow the convention or codes for genre films, I try to convey messages about society through these broken codes."
The audience at the 23-hundred seat Grand Theatre Lumiere burst into applause after the 2-hour long film.
"Parasite" portrays a poor family getting involved with a wealthy family residing in a gaudy mansion.
This is Bong's fifth time at Cannes and his second attempt to win the Palme d'Or in the main competition section, following "Okja" in 2017.
