The chief of South Korea's ruling Democratic Party has vowed to do everything he can this year to revitalize the economy and foster peace on the peninsula.
In his new year's press conference on Sunday, Lee Hae-chan said the ruling party will be at the forefront to support the government's goal of building a nation in which everyone prospers.
He said the National Assembly passed a number of bills last year to improve people's livelihoods, but noted that some have not been able to feel the impact.
Asked about the prospects of a second North Korea-U.S. summit,.. Lee said it might happen next month.
He added that this time they need to bring about substantive results.
Lee said likely on the table will be shutting down the North's nuclear facilities in exchange for sanctions relief.
