With just a couple days to go until the Lunar New Year holiday, or Seollal, President Moon Jae-in called on the government to make sure the Korean people can enjoy a happy and peaceful long weekend.
The President for the first time held his Cabinet meeting on Tuesday morning via video conferencing since some of his ministers were away in the city of Sejong.
President Moon said the government should do all it can to make the holiday starting this Thursday warm-hearted,. especially by supporting the socially vulnerable, such as small business owners and children living in poverty.
He also called for an overall check-up on safety measures to prevent accidents like the recent deadly fires in public facilities.
"I urge you to carry out thorough inspections and ensure a level of safety preparedness in all areas that concern the public, including traffic, food hygiene, disaster response and emergency medical services, so that no unfortunate accidents or tragedies take place during this happy holiday."

Also during the meeting, the South Korean President stressed to his ministers the importance of integrity in the public sector, emphasizing that the current administration must never forget how it came to be.
"We should not forget even for a moment that our government was launched amid high public resentment against the corruption of the previous government,"
He said he hopes to see dramatic progress in the level of integrity at public agencies -- a level markedly different from that of the previous government.
And with that, President Moon instructed the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission to take the lead throughout the year to fight corruption and come up with strong measures to do so.
