Finance minister makes remarks about gov't measures to curb household debt Updated: 2017-09-15 04:05:25 KST

South Korea's finance chief has warned that the country's massive household debt problem is so intertwined with other economic issues that it'll take some time to get to the root of it and that there's no one-size-fits-all answer.
Finance Minister Kim Dong-yeon made the remarks while touching basis of the government's measures to get a grip on household debt, which had reached one.two trillion U.S. dollars.
He said the measures will be focused on preventing more debt from piling up and supporting those at risk of defaulting.
The finance ministry is running through various databases, including those from credit agencies, to find patterns and to assess what the impact on the economy would be if the government were to strengthen financial regulations.
