Moscow says North Korea is highly interested in direct talks with Washington: report Updated: 2017-09-14 11:54:27 KST

Verbal threats have flown back and forth between North Korea and the U.S. in recent weeks, but a top Russian diplomat says Pyongyang is actually "extremely interested" in holding talks with the U.S., to lay out the options over mounting tensions on the Korean Peninsula-- though it's *unclear whether President Trump feels the same way at this point.
Moscow's state-run news agency, RIA Novosti quoted Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov on Wednesday local time.
The diplomat added the Trump administration may lack the political will, to engage in such dialogue despite Pyongyang's apparent desire to come to the negotiating table.
This comes as the U.S. State Department says Washington's special envoy on North Korea Joseph Yun, is currently in Moscow for discussions with senior Russian officials.
