Chinese ships enter Japan's northeastern waters Updated: 2017-07-18 04:59:37 KST

The Japanese Coast Guard says two Chinese patrol ships briefly entered Japanese waters on Monday morning off Aomori Prefecture - a first for the area.
After a warning, they left about 90 minutes later, but were spotted again off Cape Tappi about two hours later and stayed there for another three-and-a-half hours.
Also Monday, four Chinese coast guard ships entered Japanese territorial waters around the Senkaku Islands - which is administered by Tokyo, but claimed by China and Taiwan.
The move follows the entry of two Chinese coast guard ships on Saturday around two islands off Kyushu - also a first in that region.
