Prime Minister Lee Nak-yeon visited the city of Cheongju in central Korea, hit hard by heavy rainfall and flash flooding.
Prime Minister Lee met with local residents and officials on Monday, while touring several flood-stricken areas to assess the damage.
Urging the relevant authorities to redouble their efforts to clean up the mess from the flood, the Lee said the government will designate the region a special disaster area.
Torrential downpours lashed Korea's central region throughout past weekend.
It left at least four people dead and forced more than 500 residents out of their homes.
