"The 'Best Dresser' is not simply a person who puts on his or her best outfit, but rather someone who expresses him or herself with confidence, has an optimistic mind and inspires others."
That's according to Lee Jae-yeon, founder and chairman of Model Line, a model agency and the host of the 31st Korea Best Dresser Swan Award, held in central Seoul on Monday.
This year, the award was given to a total of 16 individuals and groups, including athletes, actors and singers, such as boy band B1A4 -- who have been key players in promoting the Korean Wave, or Hallyu, to the world.
"We are very honored and thankful to be receiving this award, and we will do our best to perform well."
This year's Swan Award offered a range of captivating performances and programs -- from a flashy fashion show to a contemporary jazz performance.
Started in 1983, the annual ceremony has expanded its categories of nominees into business, politics and more.
And it's not just growing in size, but also in purpose and meaning, in that fashion refers to everything around us and active players in those industries need to be recognized.
""Fashion is no longer just about selling clothes, but also about ideas and thoughts. The people given the award are the ones who can lead that kind of fashion culture in Korea, and further nurture the industry.""
"Inviting more individuals from outside the country this year, the CEO hopes the award ceremony will further grow to become Asia's Best Dresser Award and serve as a platform for Asian leaders and fashion pioneers.
Lee Ji-won, Arirang News."
