Korea to kick fighter jet development project into full gear in SeptemberUpdated: 2014-09-01 03:29:49 (KST)
Korea will kick its fighter jet development program into full gear this month by opening the bidding for the 8.3-billion dollar project.
The project involves building 120 fighter jets to replace the country's aging fleet and developing more jets for export.
While Korea Aerospace Industries, Korea's sole jet producer, is widely expected to win the contract, global companies have been watching the project closely to see who will build the key components and avionics system.
In a separate deal, Korea agreed to buy forty F-35A fighters from Lockheed Martin, which will lend technology and know-how to the jet development project.
