Co-leaders of opposition party resign after crushing election defeatUpdated: 2014-07-31 12:05:00 (KST)
Following a crushing defeat in Wednesday's by-elections, the co-leaders of the main opposition New Politics Alliance for Democracy have resigned.
All members of the party's supreme council, including co-leaders Kim Han-gil and Ahn Cheol-soo, decided to step down to take responsibility for the by-election loss, a party spokesman said after a supreme council meeting.
The leaders have been heavily criticized for causing friction during the nomination process, and thereby lowering the party's chances of a good showing in the poll.
Party floor leader Park Young-sun will temporarily take the helm until new leaders are elected.
