Korea has confirmed another case of foot-and-mouth disease signaling a spread of the highly infectious animal disease may have already begun.
The agriculture ministry said Monday that a second outbreak was confirmed at a pig farm in Goryeong , Gyeongsangbuk-do Province.
This comes just four days after the country confirmed its first outbreak of FMD in over three years at a pig farm in the nearby county of Uiseong .
Quarantine authorities in the region have decided to cull 40 pigs, that tested positive and placed a temporary lockdown on animals and vehicles at the farm to prevent possible spreading of the disease.
Korea's last outbreak in 2011 cost the economy billions of dollars and led to the culling of nearly three-and-a-half million animals.
