Israel, Hamas agree to 12-hour cease-fire in GazaUpdated: 2014-07-26 18:15:35 KST
Turning to the latest on the crisis in the Middle East
A tenuous twelve-hour humanitarian cease fire between Israel and Hamas is in effect in Gaza and is holding.
The Israeli Defense Forces say Israeli troops will continue to locate and neutralize tunnels used by Hamas militants during the period.
Hamas says it agreed to the lull to allow civilians to receive aid and evacuate to safer areas.
Generally though, the temporary pause is unlikely to lead to the end of the hostilities.
At least 1,000 Palestinians, including many women and children, have been killed and more than six-thousand wounded over the past 19 days.
Israeli strikes have also destroyed hundreds of homes and displaced tens of thousands fleeing the fighting.
Thirty-eight Israelis, mostly soldiers, have been killed.
