Prime Minister Chung Hong-won, who promised earlier this month to root out corruption after April's ferry disaster, has launched a special task force with that very goal in mind.
Thirty-five officials from government ministries and agencies, including the justice ministry, the prosecutors' office, and the state tax agency have been commissioned to counter corrupt practices in both the public and private sectors.
The prime minister said anyone convicted of corruption should not only face severe punishment, but also be forced to cough up a greater amount than the gains made from their illegal activities.
