Korean military begins naval firing drill near Dokdo Island despite Japan's objectionsUpdated: 2014-06-20 19:55:03 (KST)
The South Korean Navy conducted a naval firing drill on this Friday in waters off the Korea-controlled Dokdo Island in the East Sea.
The Japanese government requested on Thursday that Korea call off the scheduled three-hour drill saying it takes place in Japanese waters.
South Korea's foreign ministry say the drills actually take place well within Korea's maritime borders.
Seemingly annoyed with Japan's repeated claims to Dokdo, the ministry also said Tokyo's opposition to the exercise 'does not make sense at all'.
